Does the World Need Another Podcast?

This is the question posed on a 4x6-inch postcard by the District of Columbia Public Library. These are the words I read over and over whilst trying to decide if I should launch a new podcast. 

We’ll, let’s see — what if the podcast is all about the act of volunteerism — the act of giving of oneself, while asking for nothing in return? Even better, what if the podcast is about amplifying the voices of millions of volunteers through storytelling? 

My podcast, the Human Piece Story is exactly that. It’s not your typical podcast. It’s a podcast inspired by one immigrant’s journey to America in the late ‘90’s — my immigrant story.

I came to America to volunteer full-time for Habitat, and that sole experience transformed my life. Many years later, that experience has led to the launch of the Human Piece Story podcast: a podcast like no other. It’s a podcast about the act of volunteerism — the act of giving of oneself, while asking for nothing in return. It’s about amplifying the voices of millions of volunteers through storytelling. It’s about swapping stories with a myriad of volunteers from all across America. It’s about promoting the act of volunteerism, so others might be inspired, or even better — participate in volunteer opportunities in their own neighborhoods or someplace abroad — just as I did many years ago. 

This podcast is for you, me and millions of our fellow volunteers who’ve put in the work, and now want to share our experiences with others. It’s also for curious listeners who have yet to volunteer. Listeners who will walk away well-informed or educated about volunteerism, and where and how to volunteer. 

So, does the world need another podcast? Wait! Let me re-phrase that: does the world need my podcast? Absolutely Yes! Or as my midwestern adoptive Dad would say: “You betcha!”

Hence, I invite you to join me, Christinah Makhetho, the host of the upcoming weekly podcast— the Human Piece Story.

But first, here’s a question:

Are you a former volunteer, and do have a story to share? Or maybe you’re a wanna-be volunteer who’s salivating at the thought of helping others? If you answered, “Yes”! to all the above, then come share your story…or come tune in and be inspired.
